First true observation session
Welcome to my personal webpage. I am a Nigerian student pursuing a Ph.D in astronomy at the Institute of Astrophysics and Space Sciences, University of Porto in Portugal.
My research is in the field of exoplanets, specifically about detecting novel exoplanets features such as rings, tidal deformation and rotation-induced oblateness.
I love experiencing new music, places, food, ideas, fashion, and cultures.
Research
My research focuses on characterisation of exoplanets particularly the cases where the planet transits across the star as depicted in the animation. When monitoring the star with space or ground-based telescope facilities, we observe a characteristic dimming in the stellar brightness caused by a planet crossing the visible disc of the star. This produces a light curve (as shown in animation) which basically records the changes in the stellar brightness with time.
The transit phenomena allow us to deduce several features of the planet including its radius in relation to that of the star, the period, inclination, atmospheric composition, shape amongst others.
I leverage on this transit method to search for the signatures of rings and shape deformation in exoplanets
